In the middle of the South Pacific, a thousand feet below the surface of the water, a huge vessel rests on the ocean floor. Rushed to the scene is a group of American scientists who descend to the depths of the sea to investigate this astonishing discovery. What they find defies their imaginations and mocks their attempts at logical explanation. It is a massive spaceship, undamaged from it's fall from the sky-and at least three hundred years old.

For a movie filled to the brim with big named actors i was expecting a Sci-Fi masterpeice, but all i got was a film with the strangest storyline ever that if descirbed as dull would be an understatement. This film has such a hard storyline to follow that you a left confused in places expecting the storyline to explain itself (which it never does). My friends who recomened this movie to me said you may have to watch it 3 or 4 times before you get it. I would if it wasnt so boring the first time i watched it! There is nothing exciting about this movie at all the only person who puts in a decent performance is Sharon Stone and she still cant save this sikning ship of a film (no pun intened). This movie was a waste of my time and brian power used to follow the story.

I always mix this up in my head with Event Horizon, but the easy way to tell them apart is by quality. Event Horizon rocks and Sphere is fairly limp. It's like they crossed Event Horizon with The Abyss but forgot to include the good bits. But I'm being overly harsh, it's not awful, it's just not great either.

********SPOILER******** This could have been so much better if it wasn't for this one part! Sometimes in Sci Fi, they get stupid with the script, take this amazing story and ruin it, on a completely illogical scene. There is a part where she gave him the option to drown or have him take a shot that would in turn knock him out and drown him, knew how to use the equipment, and he should have died from hypothermia?! It was definitely a part, where you're like: "OH COME ON"! If instead of, trying to make it full of crazy suspense, and made that scene within reason, I would have loved it. Probably why I haven't heard of this movie too much, despite the cast and it being sweet Sci Fi.

The government brings together 4 people are with professional backgrounds to a location in the middle of the ocean heavily guarded by the armed forces. Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, Samuel L Jackson and Liev Schreiber (Sabbertooth). Turns out that an alien craft was discovered on the sea floor and the team is assembled to be the first recon crew because they are picking up activity from the ship. They find that they are not on an alien ship at all but a American space craft from the future. When their thoughts become reality they are forced to confront their own worst fears.

For 30 minutes, this picture rolls along very nicely, setting the scene with aplomb. Then, without warning, the film gets a lobotomy and you're forced to slog through 90 minutes of the most mind-crushingly boring tripe you've seen in a long while. Gets stupider and stupider with every passing minute.
